Visit Bonnievale in the Robertson Wine Valley in Autumn and enjoy Bonnievale Wines

Autumn is a time of serenity. In Bonnievale like much of the winelands, the season is a pause between the frantic summer and hibernation that awaits. The rush of the year’s beginning now done, this is the perfect time to slow down.

Fortunately, you’ll be able to take advantage of long weekends and public holidays during April and May.

Picture the golden light on blue-gum branches; the languid river lost in the bend; a man on a bicycle in crisp morning air; and, a trail of thin, white smoke from a farmhouse kitchen chimney stack. This is Tom Sawyer-country. But don’t just take our word for it, as it is written in the names of our many guesthouses.

There’s A Place in Thyme – a stylish and cosy village homestead; Apricot Farm – the country getaway with views of mountains and fruit orchards; Blue-Gum Cottage – a home-from-home to find yourself; Bordeaux River Cottages – where you can fish from your veranda; Kingfisher Cottage – a birders paradise; Olifantskrans River Cabins – a family-friendly spot with lawns that run to the river; and, Ottersbend – a secluded, water’s edge breakaway.

This is the time to follow the tack of the Langeberg and Riviersonderend Mountains; the guiding stream of the Breede River. This is the time to get better acquainted with the world where Bonnievale Wines are born.

Take the opportunity of the trip to visit the winery and sample our unpretentious reds, whites and bubbly. Tasting them here you are sure to agree when we say the wines are as welcoming and soothing as the beautiful valley that produces them. Evocative of an easily elegant country lifestyle, they are an invitation for you to become part of the real-life stories of the people rooted here.

Bonnievale lies just a two-hour road-trip up the N2 from Cape Town through beautiful farmlands. Plan your stops and perhaps a pie at the famous Ou Meul bakery in Riviersonderend. Or head up the N1, turning off at Worcester for Robertson.
