The annual Bonnievale Cycle Race is happening on November 5. Bonnievale Wines is a co-sponsor of the event this year.

One of the few multi-disciplinary cycle races of its kind, the event features both road and mountain bike routes. There is also a 10 km family fun ride. It will be part of the town’s annual festival and organisers are expecting to host some 1 000 riders on the day.

The Bonnievale Cycle race launched in 1994 and has built up a loyal following. Among the milestones in its 22-year history was signing up enough participants in 1998 to see it ranked second largest in the Western Cape, after the Cape Town Cycle Tour.

All proceeds raised at the event this year will go towards the Bonnie People Project. This is an early childhood development project, after school care and youth development facility for vulnerable children. The project has been serving the community since 2002.
